  • THIBODAUX - Kajuns for Katrina, spearheaded by state Rep. Karen St. Germain, D-Pierre Part, and the Pierre Part Knights of Columbus Council 5352, is preparing meals and collecting truckloads of relief items for New Orleans area refugees sheltered at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux.

  • STATEWIDE – Foster Families - Any Mississippi foster or adoptive family can call 1-800-821-9157. If you are a custodial parent and need the state Department of Human Services to redirect your child support payment, call 1-866-388-2836.

  • ATTALA COUNTY - A group of Kosciusko residents is collecting non-perishable food items  and water to be distributed by the American Red Cross on the Mississippi  coast. Bring items to the Attala County Coliseum today from 1-9 p.m.,  Saturday from 9 a.m.-9 p.m., Sunday from 1-9 p.m. and Monday from 9 a.m.-9 p.m.
  • JACKSON – Lost Patients - Baptist Medical Center in Jackson is seeking to find the relatives of displaced patients at the hospital. "Plus, we want to help relatives locate their missing loved ones," spokesman Robby Channel said. The web site is www.mbhs.org.
  • JACKSON – Donations - The Community Foundation of Greater Jackson has established an emergency relief fund to assist the victims of Hurricane Katrina. The foundation will forward 100 percent to appropriate aid agencies on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.   • BRANDON - Crossgates United Methodist Church, 23 Crossgates Drive, Brandon. For updated information, call (601) 825-8677. Need: Soft drinks or juice drinks and bottled water. Later in the week, the church also will be accepting fresh fruit, personal-hygiene items and diapers
  • CANTON - First Baptist Church of Canton is in need of air mattresses and food. The church is housing refugees, with 30 mor expected Friday. Call the church office 601-859-3172 or the Chamber/Main Street office 601-859-5816. Church members can pick up donations.
  • JACKSON - Mississippi Coliseum at the state fairgrounds, off the High Street exit in Jackson. Need: Coloring books, crayons, diapers, baby wipes, Depends, extra large T-shirts and infants' clothing. Bring donated items to the west end of the coliseum. For more information, call (601) 961-4000.
  • JACKSON – Christ United Methodist Church in Jackson – Need: nonperishable food, bread, peanut butter, can openers, water, ace bandages, gauze, 4-by-4-inch bandages, antibiotic cream, hydrocortizine cream, eye drops, peroxide, rubbing alcohol, cough drops, cough and cold medicine, vitamins for children and adults, glucose strips, Ora-Gel and Monistat.   • JACKSON – Jackson Stewpot – Need: diapers, canned meats, face towels, full-sized towels, deodorant, soap, women's hygiene products, sanitary napkins, washing powder, bleach, underwear for women and children, children's socks and T-shirts, queen-size and full bed linens. Take items to the Sims Shelter at 1010 W. Capitol St. and Matt's House Women's Shelter at 343 Adelle St.
  • MADISON - Madison United Methodist Church, 2050 Main St., Madison. For updated information, call (601) 853-7436. Need: Cans of Lysol and road maps of the Southeast and Madison County.  
  • MADISON – Madison County Stewpot  - Needs: Canned vegetables, meat and bread and clothing. Bring these items to 505 S. Union Street in Canton at the side door.
  • MADISON - Broadmoor Baptist Church – Need: canned goods, and fresh, packaged meat from a grocery. No homegrown foods. Broadmoor is not accepting clothing donations at this time.   • STATEWIDE - Oklahoma Hire Education Response to Hurricane Katrina – Oklahoma’s public colleges and universities helping students who have been affected by Hurricane Katrina. While some schools are helping these students continue their education, others are providing support to current students who have felt the impact of this disaster.

TENNESSEE (TN)

  • GOODLETTSVILLE - Goodlettsville Cumberland Presbyterian Church 226 South Main Street, Goodlettsville, Tennessee. Collecting food and clothing donations

·        NASHVILLE - Nashville Area Chapter of the American Red Cross will open a resource center for Hurricane Katrina victims and evacuees stranded in Davidson County. The resource center, located at the Nashville Area Red Cross Headquarters on 2201 Charlotte Avenue,

·        NASHVILLE - Second Harvest Foodbank -  is currently accepting donations of food to be sent to hurricane evacuees arriving in Tennessee.

·        NASHVILLE - Tennessee Baptist Disaster Relief -  Brentwood Baptist Church is a drop-off point for donations. Items can be dropped off beginning September 1st from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. daily. The following non-perishable goods are being accepted:

·        STATEWIDE - The Tennessee Emergency Management Association (TEMA) is building a database of volunteers who wish to be trained with storm credentials in order to assist the storm victims. Call 741-0343 or 741-1496 to volunteer or visit their website at www.tnema.org.
